Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). A few years later, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981, she began working for the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was named chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell has been a panelist, as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was on a panel for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-Contra controversy, tax and budget reforms and also the issue of arms control. She traveled widely along with the president Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
